After the album Frontiers, Jermaine took two years to create his next album, because he wasn’t satisfied with the previous albums and wanted his next album to be the best. And he succeeded! Let’s Get Serious remains undoubtedly Jermaine’s most successful album for Motown, having sold over 2 million copies worldwide and it topped the U.S. charts, reaching #1 in the R&B charts and #6 in the Pop charts.
Jermaine’s longtime friend Stevie Wonder produced three songs for the album, and four more along with Jermaine. Executive producers for the album are Hazel Gordy and Berry Gordy. For the album Let’s Get Serious Jermaine received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male R&B Vocals Performance in 981.
The first single of the album was the title song “Let’s Get Serious”, the duet with Stevie Wonder that became a smash hit around the globe, getting the #1 position in the R&B charts and #9 in the Pop charts in the U.S. In the U.K. “Let's Get Serious” earned the #8 position in the charts.
“You’re Supposed To Keep Your Love For Me” was the second single from the album, a song written and produced by Stevie Wonder that the Jackson 5 also recorded before with Jermaine singing the lead vocals and not released as a single before. Jermaine and Stevie re-recorded the song for the album Let’s Get Serious. The single reached #32 in the R&B charts and #34 in the Pop charts. Other songs from the album released as a single were the up-tempo song “Burnin’ Hot” in several European countries and Japan and “You Got To Hurry Girl” in France only.
Jermaine recorded at least three tracks from Let’s Get Serious in Spanish. The Spanish versions of the following tracks were released on a super rare Mexican album vinyl:
- En Serio (Let’s Get Serious),
- Te Tienes Que Apurar Chica (You Got To Hurry Girl)
- Lo Podemos Arreglar (We Can Put It Back Together)

Stevie co-wrote and sings on the track "Let's Get Serious" with Jermaine. During a lot of Stevie's sessions for the album Songs In The Key Of Life, Jermaine was present in the studio.
